Common Types of Plaster Damage
When we repair plaster, there are a few common issues we see with relatively simple and effective solutions. We begin all plaster repairs by cleaning and prepping the area. Some of the common plaster problems and repair procedures for them are:
Cracks
Cracks in plaster are a common issue occurring when the plaster shifts away from its lathe or, more simply put, the wood behind it. We fix this problem by making small holes in the wall to reattach the plaster to the lathe. Then, we fill in the crack and make the wall smooth again.
Bulges
Depending on the severity of the bulge in the plaster, we may be able to repair the bulge the same way as we do a crack. Another option for more severe bulges is to remove and reapply at plaster.
Holes
If you have a hole in your plaster and we find that the lathe behind the plaster is still in good condition, we can reattach the plaster around the hole to the lathe. After reconnecting the existing plaster, we can apply new plaster to cover up the hole. This will create a smooth surface ready to paint.
